Just about four hours away from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas is Branson, Missouri. When I found out we were moving to Leavenworth in 2015, I started to research family-friendly attractions within driving distance. I was pleased to find Branson, a tourist destination with something for everyone in the family–museums, shopping, and shows!
Branson is an easy and beautiful drive. It is amazing to see how the landscape changes as you drive closer to the Ozark mountain range, and for a weekend trip, it is just the right distance from Leavenworth. I was pleasantly surprised to learn how much this tourist town loves the military! Many activities in the area offer a military discount, so don’t be afraid to ask! Also, take time to explore what tickets are offered on post for shows, hotels, and attractions.
During our visit, we did the Scenic Branson Railroad and Wax Museum. We rode the 40-mile round trip ride on a Saturday evening, which was absolutely breathtaking! The leaves were changing colors, the little towns were adorable, and the conductor narrated the history throughout our journey. They offer a dinner train, the roundtrip train ride, and the Polar Express train ride during the holiday season. We decided on the roundtrip train ride, because we wanted to eat somewhere else in town to explore more! My daughter has always loved trains, so when I found the link, I knew this was a must for us. If you are planning to go, I recommend you book your tickets early. The train was packed, and I quickly learned why! It was truly an amazing experience our family will not forget.
At the end of the weekend, we went to the wax museum located on Main Street. I think I had the most fun with this one out of everyone in my family. It was so cool to pose next to celebrities for photos. We all got into it and used props to make the photos even more interesting.
When I started to plan this trip, I did not know what to expect, but we were not disappointed! This was our first trip, so we focused on the train ride and the wax museum so we didn’t overwhelm our daughter. However, I will tell you that they offer rides and many attractions and you could easily spend several days there! I would definitely recommend you make plans to visit exciting Branson!
Have you ever been to Branson? What awesome things would you recommend doing while visiting?
